Is is going to be a big colourful show with all the stops pulled, can't wait.
Last Night we had a great show, with Mondrian Shift and Les Jupes, at The New Wunderbar in Edmonton. Thanks to Craig Martellica and of course Joe Gruba for putting up the show and creating an awesome scene on a late Wednesday night. We are looking forward to meeting up with Kat Dorian at CJSW 90.9 FM in Calgary at noon for a little acoustic set to promote our show at the Epcor Center for the Performing arts this evening. We all slept over at Scott and Jills’, Darren and Peter had to fight for the couch and Peter lost and we got to share a bed. However we only slept about 4 hours. We are going to have to wake now and start heading down the old Queen Elizabeth highway. Edmonton… Thanks! And Calgary, although we are not yet that well acquainted we look forward to our meetings today and hope to become great friends.
It’s Sunday evening and I’m sitting down on the grass in Thorton Park, Vancouver, it is raining and I’m wondering if today is the day I’m suppose to be getting on a bus and heading back to Edmonton. Of course I won’t be heading back there until the end of March when we have some shows to play including our show in Calgary on March 29th at the Epcor Center. My Dell desktop computer hooked up to my old car battery is getting wet. I doubt if I’ll be able to finish this post. Tomorrow Yes Nice is going to be releasing a remix album. It is quit interesting for us to have our work used in such a collaborative project. For the record we are total control freaks and don’t like anyone having a say in what we do. In fact, it was with much hesitancy that we made the stems for the re-mix artists to use. We hope you like what you hear. The songs remixed include Horses, Blindfolded, and Empty Space.

Besides the Re-mix EP we have been working away at our new LP. We were thinking of calling it “Warm Gun” for a long time but we might change that as the project evolves. We basically got really into Prince and some nasty Linn LM-1 drum samples and pasted that hot sauce over about half the album. I’d like to say it is sounding way better than it should. Let me also say that Scott really has a way with gated reverb on Linn snare samples. I just finished some epic choir arrangements for a song “We Set Sail.” And no we have not written some kind of Decemberists ship sailing song, but I bet if we did it would be in French.

I think that one of the questions raised that is really important to our process in our new work is: why did Prince leave his vocals so raw on When Doves Cry and yet so wet on Purple Rain? I’m happy to know that one day we will know the answers to these types of questions. Like blindfolded we have been thinking of this new album as more than just series of number 1 singles. What we are doing now is more about telling a story with a grand narrative about selling out shows, being number 1, and accepting fame as something deserved by hard work. Get ready for a musical journey sort of like Dark Side of the Moon if it was recorded by a bunch of real-estate tycoons who loved singing Air Supply ballads. In other words the greatest story ever told.
Yoko and Tribe of Zebras. It sounds like Yes Nice threads all cut up and stitched back together, remixes of sorts, ah ha! Also we have been in the Studio in Edmonton laying down tracks for the past three weeks for our upcoming full length album to be released in the spring.

We are back in the studio these days; writing and recording new songs. And, of course, by studio I mean we have set up little recording areas in our respective houses and are getting some ideas down as best we can. Scott is in Edmonton and I'm in Vancouver so we have been sending tracks back and forth to work out song ideas. So far we have about 5 songs we are quite certain about. One of them is Jillian's first lead singer debut! The track is called Oh Boy, so far, and it also features some heavy melodic bass thanks to Scott and also some interesting backing vocals by Erin James.

Also in the news is that we officially have a new manager. We are now being managed by FluidArt management. They are based out of Vancouver an we feel like they are an excellent fit for our music and we are very happy to be working with them. As for our new album we have set out May 8th, 2012 as our release date and we hope we can stick to that. The new songs we are working on have a bit of a new element to them we are steering a bit away from Dark Side of the Moon aesthetics and have a trajectory more in the direction of Parliament. However, as is the case when making such designations maybe we make our way back to some ironic Dark Side of the Moon tendencies at times. I think it will be our most cohesive record so far, though perhaps not on the first listen. Stay tuned!

Nathaniel
